Developed by a Nationally Known Expert on Team Dynamics, Patrick Handley, Ph.D.
The INSIGHT Team Building Modules were developed by psychologist and management consultant, Dr. Patrick Handley. Dr. Handley has worked for over 25 years specifically in the area of team development and performance improvement and is a nationally known expert in the dynamics of teamwork.
The Modules are the outcome of a ten-year research project focused on identifying the critical competencies practiced (not theorized) by the leaders and members of teams. Once these competencies were identified then thousands of hours were devoted to writing practical self-directed skill-building exercises that would help any teams develop these skills. These Modules were then Beta-tested tested on team after team until the final, practical, results producing versions were released.
There are no other team building materials on the market like these. Almost all the other commonly used training materials are constructed for classroom leadership seminars or off site team building workshops. They take teams out of their work setting and attempt to improve skills by teaching ideas and concepts. But, teaming competencies are skills (not lack of information) must be developed in the team in their actual work setting when solving real-life performance problems.
You wouldn’t try to learn to ride a bike by attending a class or watching a video; you have to actually get on the bike. Likewise, teaming skills can only be developed in a real-life team setting, with all members of the team present. The Modules put the team in a position to develop their skills as they are doing their regular jobs.
The Insight Modules instead are designed to allow teams to self-assess their strengths and weaknesses and then select the module(s) that help them improve their skills in that area. This means that as soon as a performance problem or interpersonal conflict arises, a team can intervene quickly, work through the issue using the appropriate module, and get back on track immediately. We call this, just-in-time, just-what’s-needed, team development.
When using the Modules, teams make noticeable, practical changes and they make them immediately because they can select a Module that addresses their most pressing problem, solve the problem and get back to work. And they can use the Modules over and over again. The Modules become their roadmap and success guide; they become the tools that change the way the team works together. This creates deep and dramatic culture change within the team. The team itself becomes its own diagnostic and treatment center and this frees its performance to soar.
