About Dr. Handley

A successful author, speaker, and licensed psychologist with personality assessments translated into 6 languages, Dr. Patrick Handley is a highly sought after management consultant. With his byline of “If they aren’t laughing, they aren’t learning,” he is known for conducting powerful and enlightening EDUTAINMENT sessions on the personality characteristics uncovered by his signature product the INSIGHT Inventory.

Having been a professional speaker and trainer for 25 years, Dr. Handley has facilitated sessions across the globe to audiences from 50 to 500. He honed his speaking skills early in his career as a presenter for the Fred Pryor Seminar Company where he was on the road as many as 5 days a week, speaking to wide ranging audiences from executive leaders to entry level dock workers. Recently he has co-presented and woven his INSIGHT Inventory into program topics popular to general audiences. These have included “Leadership Lessons from the Apprentice” with finalists in the TV series, The Apprentice, and “Parenting Insights” with Dr. Frank Lawlis content director for the Dr. Phil show.

Known as one of the most versatile speakers in the training business, Dr. Handley weaves stories, examples, and yarns about the various personality characters he grew up with; from a small rural farm in the Midwest, to those he met while hitchhiking around Europe, through training with the US Army, teaching in inner city schools, sailing the Caribbean, and working in executive leadership coaching. Audiences appreciate Dr. Handley’s ability to present complex material in humorous, down to earth, and entertaining ways with practical “how to’s”. This favorable response has allowed Dr. Handley to book exclusively by referral and repeat business. Although he speaks on a variety of topics, he is often asked back by organizations to present the same program time and again. It is not unusual for the booking personnel representative to add specific requests for the sessions such as: “be sure and tell the story about”... or “don’t leave out the example of” ... “and finish up with your poem about ...” --a strong endorsement for any speaker.

Dr. Handley's Bio

In 1980 he obtained a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri with primary areas of study in personality assessment, career management, and organizational development. He held faculty appointments at two universities, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Since then, he has worked as a career development specialist, seminar leader, and training director and after starting his own company has consulted for organizations including: FedEx, Steelcase, Sprint, Hallmark, Monsanto, John Deere, Duke Energy, Shell, ATT, Service Master, Focus on the Family, and many others.

The center of Patrick’s personal universe is his wife Melanie and their two children, Lauren a teenager and Shea is in gradeschool. Time permitting, he is an accomplished oil painter and raises and trains Andalusian horses.
